Hey MoPo -
It's not exactly poster related (though some posters can be seen in the
background), but I put together a little video on my screen worn costume
collection. It includes pieces worn by Bogart, Cagney, Robinson, Groucho
Marx, and Paul Muni's pinstripe suit from Scarface. I thought some
Am I hearing that Heritage's base seller commission is 20%? If so, then I
need to revise the figures on this page (
https://www.emovieposter.com/learnmore/?page=consign#intro) since it
assumes that Heritage and other BP auctions charge 15%.
Please confirm. I want to present a 100%accurate picture
Scott,
As a consignor to many different auction houses over the last 40+ years,
including the two major one's, Sotheby's and Christie's, it's important to know
that all seller fees are negotiable.
The auction houses do make a ton of profit on EVERY item for their 20 or 25%
Buyer's Premium and
Heritage sells over 40 categories of collectibles, each with a distinct
market. As such, there isn’t a universal commission rate across all
departments. In posters, the standard commission rate is 25% for items that
sell for >$1000, and 20% for items that sell for $1000 and up.

Thanks for the explanation Zach.
I was clear on the BP situation—that’s easy to understand. I was just curious
how much I might have to pay to Heritage should I ever consign posters for
auction. The commission rate varies? How is that determined?
Basically, Heritage gets paid via the
"IF you have a 20% commission rate"?
So, are you telling us that the commission rate IS 20% or are telling us that
the commission rate varies by consigner? Or are you saying something else?
I am pretty sure we all understand the concepts here. We were just looking for
actual numbers.
The fee structure at Heritage works the same way as it does at Prop Store,
Sotheby’s, Christie’s, or any other auction house that charges a buyer’s
premium.
For a seller:
Commission is assessed on the hammer price (winning bid amount).
The seller nets the hammer price less commission. The
I was curious about HA’s fees, too. As I was watching their TV memorabilia
auction this past, weekend I looked all over their website but didn’t find a
clear answer on fees, other than the 25% BP.
Am I correct to assume HA keeps the Buyer’s Premium of 25%, PLUS a cut of
whatever the final
When you say "a $50 sale", do you mean a Bid of $50 (for a total of $79 with
BP) or do you mean a Bid of $21 (for a total of $50 with BP)?
I would also like to know the answer to Peter's question.
Thanks,
Evan

Hi Zach
Waiting on a response since you asked. I'll simplify:
What does a seller net on a $50 sale?
Are your fees codified on your site and if so where are they?
I appreciate your time,
Peter
