I agree that anything by Kylene Beers is excellent. I also like
Deeper Reading: Comprehending Challenging Texts, 4-12 by Kelly
Gallagher. And, whenever I read Jeff Wilhelm, I become energized.

I teach 6th grade reading and I used The Comprehension Toolkit this past
school year. I went to my school yesterday to look at our state reading test
results and out of 96 students who took the test I had 98% who scored
proficient (76 scored a 4 and 18 scored a 3) on our state reading test. I

Tim Rasinski has some great material on increasing fluency/comprehension. I
heard him speak at the Lakota Reading and Writing Institute (in Ohio) last
month and was quite impressed. He spoke about "voice makes meaning" and
teaching even older kids prosody. He has written several book

Good question! Made me laugh. This is the most productive time of the day for
