Have you tried Craft Lessons and Non-Fiction Craft Lessons by Portalupi and
Ralph Fletcher? Both recommend mentor texts for grades 3-6.

I teach 6th grade at a LARGE (almost 10,000 students) district in upstate
New York. Here's my dilemma - I would love to have the kids on the floor but
the custodian has firmly planted his foot stating no rugs (hygienic
reasons), no sofas (won't pass fire inspection). I saw that you have futons

uld anyone know of a Reading/Language Arts common assessment for 6th grade
students which has met rigorous research standards and is a fair measure of
students' capabilities?

I just read Laura Robb's Teaching Reading in Middle School and it has PLENTY
of sample mini-lessons which are really comprehensive. Enjoy!
