Hi my name is Kathy and I am a special education teacher. I teach a K-2
Special Day Class for students with autism. I have one 2nd grade child who
is reading at a beginning first grade level. He has great

Are you working on phonemic awareness? If he can't blend orally he may need
work with that before he adds phonics to the mix in the decidable books.
He's strong with comprehension you say... But decidable books force him to use
one cue system- the visual- w
I would say instead of looking for decodables use high-quality
predictable text. Try R.C. Owen books.
But even before that, I would make a journal out of plain, unlined
white paper (about 15 sheets) tucked and stapled into a construction
paper cover. Title it, "__'s Journal" then have him
