This year my school system began implementing Lucy Caulkins Units of Study for
Primary Writing: A Yearlong Curriculum, K-2 in grades K-2 and Units of Study
for Teaching Writing, 3-5 in grades 3-5. We were originally given one set per
grade level. Then after much "discussion" it becam
Union County was one of the orignal pilots for the Units of Study 3-5, working
directly with TC (or at least that is what one of their elementary principals
told me). They might have someone who would be a good source. Also, try the
ELA division of DPI (Lisa Llewelyn is one of the consultants
I work with an amazing teacher who spent lots of time in New Zealand
learning the balanced literacy approach first hand. She travels all
around the country giving teachers support and ideas on how to teach
writing in the classroom. Her name is Darla Wood-Walters. I think

presenters but has the essence of childhood and the form and function of
writing workshop down... it is a more individualized and kid friendl
Our school works with Carl Anderson. He's the BEST, especially for
conferring. He also instills confidence in those who are new to
writing workshop.
