This morning I covered the length of Park Point, starting at Canal Park,
where I had 2 young GLAUCOUS GULLS and a likely Thayer's Gull mixed
throughout the Herring Gulls. Even though my 12x50 binocs provide a good
amount of magnification, I wasn't 100% sure about that Thayer's/Herring
Gull. As seen
Found a female Black-backed Woodpecker in a worked over stand of tamarack
within the St. Wendall Tamarack Bog SNA. You will need snowshoes to work for
this bird ~ 1/3mile deep into the bog. Find your way to St. Joseph, MN, N on
CR2, Right on CR4 and after the road turns N, look for where I ente

Highlights:
- 4 Great Gray Owls along the McDavitt Rd!! We saw the first one around 8:15am
- 8:40am The owls were from the southern end around 3 miles north of Sax Rd
(CR 28) to 4 miles north of Sax Rd.
- Northern Hawk Owl was 1/4 mile n
My husband Russ called me today to say he had seen a black billed magpie fly
across State Highway 23 (Veterans Evergreen Memorial Highway) in Duluth. The
location he gave was near the St. Louis River, in the vicinity of the Lake
Superior College fire training center. (Approx. 1 mile west of Gary
Up in the bog for a short photo trip with my 5 month old son (He slept the
whole time until I was about to photograph the Boreal Chickadees!).Monday
