One of my first visitors to the birdbath was an Indigo Bunting at my home in
Vadnais Heights.

Two Whooping Cranes were first spotted by Emily Hutchins Monday night around
7:30. They were flying over the intersection of Hwys. 218 and 14 on the south
side of Owatonna. They landed in a green meadow on the south side of 18th
Street on the eastern edge of Owatonna. They were still present
John Hockema called to report that he found 4 Surf Scoters at the East
Landfill Reservoir in Olmsted County around 7:45 this morning. Two of
the birds were males in breeding plumage while the other two were
either females or juvenile/1st year males.

Ron Erpelding called to report a Say's Phoebe that he found at 11:25 AM today.
The bird was still present until 11:45 when he left the area.
Directions are a bit complicated but the following should work.
Go south of Glenwood on State Hwy 104 about 7 1/2 miles to 255th St. Go west
about 1
Ten minutes ago I saw four willets on Lake Detroit at West Lake Dr. and Lake
Ave. (right by JK Marina). Still lots of yellow rumps and a couple palm
warblers. RB and bonaparte's gulls, forster's terns.

Went back to the beach at 1500 hrs. The willets are gone, but there are two
caspian terns and at least one herring gull on the JK Marina dock. Two other
large brown gulls are probable herring gulls.

Over the years I have tried to chase the house sparrows away. The
neighborhood Coopers Hawks have taken a couple but seem to prefer
other birds. I remove the nests and access to my house gutters and
such. Yet here we are again, a yard full of the little bastards. Does

I had a chance to get out briefly this morning and went down to check out the
shorebirding at Cobb River WPA. I was rewarded with Willet (1), American
Golden-Plover (24), Semipalmated Plover (2), Long-billed Dowitcher (7), Lesser
Yellowlegs (25), Pectoral Sandpiper (~150!), Least
While birding Lilydale Brickyard Trail this morning, I saw my first
Golden-winged Warbler. This beautiful bird was at the top of the bluff 20
yards east of the Vento's View.

Around 5:00 this afternoon Erik Collins and I observed 2 female Hudsonian
Godwits
feeding and preening on the long, narrow island just to the west of the Manitou
Island bridge on White Bear Lake. The godwits were about 100 yards out from the
parking lot. This area is known as Matoska Park.

Hi everyone,
I am reporting this for my friend Troy Flicek who went to Cody Lake this
evening looking for the previously reported American Avocet seen on 5/4. The
avocet appears to have moved on but there was a single Marbled Godwit present
in the same location along with many other

The two piping plovers seen Sunday at Olson Lake WPA were NOT relocated
today but could still be present, as there was over 800 shorebirds this
evening. Today's highlights included: 104 wilson's phalarope (still no

This evening between 6:30 and 8:00, a Harris's Sparrow was present along the
east edge of the St. Paul campus mall (along Eckles Avenue in front of Coffee
Hall). I saw the bird 3 different times, always in clear view on the pavement
of the street and on the nearby lawn. It was hanging out
