Craig Mandel and I were conducting a Marsh Bird Survey along the MRV-owned
areas in Bloomington (Visitor's center, Bass Ponds, Old Cedar Ave.) The
highlight was a Least Bittern who responded to our tape by, at least twice,
circling as close as 50 feet above the boom box! This was at the Hogback
Tonight about 5:30 pm, Dan and Barbara Williams and I found a Snowy Plover
on the west side of Parker Pool at Agassiz NWR. Note that this is inside the
locked gates, and would require a walk of about a mile if the bird is still
there, unless you come during business hours on a weekday.

During a birding-by-bike MRVAC field trip late this afternoon, we were
fortunate to have great views of a male prothonotary warbler in Ft.
Snelling State Park.
We didn't find it in its usual location from previous years, namely
the swampy wooded area between the visitor center parking lot a

Today my wife and I relocated the Prothonotary Warbler(s) previously reported
by Milton Blomberg on May 23 at the Osceola Bottoms in SE Chisago County. We
followed his directions and had little trouble finding the bird(s). Like him
we could not determine if there was more than one bird or not.
A single Western Grebe was on the northwestern end of Rapids Lake of
the MVNWR early this morning.It was fairly close to the shore but
could only be seen from a hunting trail on the west side of the lake.
