nesting colony around an active Cooper's hawk nest. A coworker said the

Had what I believe to be a First Winter Northern Shrike land in my yard
today (Monday) around 9:30 a.m. This is my first shrike and, needless to
say, seeing it about 10 feet away from our living room window was quite a

Pat Thomas reports that the Black-headed Grosbeak at 6219 E. Superior
Street in Duluth was reported in her backyard sightings log by a
couple of birders yesterday (Jan 10) at 10:55 am. This is apparently
the only sighting since the 7th. Perhaps the warming temperatures
are causing it to visit

Now that the Black-headed Grosbeak is now apparently gone from Pat
Thomas' feeder in Duluth, she wanted me to post the following e-mail
