Tonight an alert friend gave us the gift of a Lifer, texting around
6:00 (I think) that he'd spotted Whooping Cranes just inside the Rice
county line, less than a half mile west of Dennison. The two cranes
were foraging in a small wet pond beside the road, south side, at the
edge of a farm field. T
With the large amount of snow this winter the birds seem to return at a later
date and we found them in different location from former years. The
Yellopw-headed Blackbird we usually found at a marsh just west of Morristown,
and south of Hwy. 60. This year it was found on the island in Cody Lake,
Chris Mansfield and I spotted a Northern Mockingbird flying across the small
bay
towards the public boat launch at the recreational area at Park Point. There
were some warblers passing along the shrub line against the bay. Blackpoll,
Cape May, Canada, Bay-breasted, Magnolia, Nashville, Redsta
Mark Junghans just called me to post shorebirds on Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison
at the rock wall. The following were seen, 8 Willets, 6 Ruddy Turnstones, and 6
Sanderlings.

Another dreary rainy morning, another good day of migration. Beginning at
Rapids Lake(vistors center/river) the weather cooperated but migrants were
scattered.I wasn't sure how birding would be at the Minnesota Landscape
Arboretum. On Wednesday afternoon, I birded for an hour and only turn
A wood thrush was calling and was seen at MH this morning. It was between
markers 14 and 13.
I looked and listened for the Hooded warbler, without success.
