I was birding on this cold northwest wind day along Brighton Beach which is
adjacent to the mouth of the Lester River. Lots of movement of longspurs,
Horned Larks and Snow Buntings moving south. I also had a late Orange-crowned
Warbler and 4-5 Harris Sparrows feeding along the main road mixed
For the third day in a row, a Summer Tanager was seen in the same area of
our side yard. It hangs out on a tree and a wire near our neighbor's upper
porch. It must still be finding yellow jackets or other insects despite the
cold.

A new Sherburne Refuge sandhill crane count record was set this morning - 4958
birds were counted coming off the roost at dawn!

Now have 3 male purple finches as well. The boys always follow the girls,
don't they?

I have 4 female purple finches at the bird feeder this morning - first ones
I've seen since spring.
Also LOTS of juncoes, along with Harris's and white-throated sparrows, although
their numbers are waning.
