identity of this bird as we struggled to reach other birders, refind

I'm told they've done some dredging of the river at Alma and the food
supply dropped due to deeper water and it doesn't support swans any longer.
Brownsville overlook has been the best place to see Tundra Swans for the
last few years now.

Four of us did our annual Halloween Swan trip this weekend. They are there
but not in great numbers yet. According to USFWS at the Brownsville
overlook, they are running about a week and a half later than normal,
probably due to mild weather and abundant food in the northern climates.

A half dozen Gray Partridge flushed from the road edge when I turned in the
Industrial Park area near Randolph.
Lake Byllesby had plenty of habit for shorebirds, but only two Killdeer could
be found. No waterfowl to speak of either.

Kim Eckert and the Muffin Trip crew spotted a probable immature Hooded Oriole
in Grand Marais, MN
Location: 2nd Street and 3rd Avenue.
They lost sight of the oriole and is currently trying to relocate the oriole
right now.
Wisconsin happenings...
This morning my friend Lizzie and I birdwatched throughout Wisconsin Point,
covering the Superior Landfill, "Lot 1," the lighthouse pullout, and the
Superior Entry.
At the Superior Landfill, we were treated to many Herring Gulls. After
about 20 minutes of enjoying the gulls,
Kim Eckert reports a female oriole in Grand Marias, at 1st Street and 2nd
Avenue. The bird is giving a call note of a Hooded Oriole but appears to have
the plumage of a Scott's Oriole.

Kim Eckert asked me to post a probable Scott's oriole, juvenile male,
present in Grand Marais today (Sunday 10-30-11). He and other birders
observed the bird between 10 and 11am at the corner of East 2nd Ave. and
3rd St. The ID of the bird was at first less certain, being either hooded
or Scott's,
Grand marais cook county. East second ave and third street at 11.00. Found by
15 plus observers, photos later

1:25 pm. mou-net has been down, so I'll resend this message. According to Kim
Eckert, they think the bird is a female Scott's Oriole. The bird has now been
lost. I think they are trying to re-find the bird. The last location for the
bird was 3ed St and E 2nd Ave.

Hi All--
Erika and I enjoyed a marvelous Friday drive to Sherburne NWR. While we
did not see all 5352 cranes counted by refuge personnel, we did see several
hundred. We were surprised that we could get fairly close to the birds
(although, when viewing cranes, we remained in the car). Photographs
