County Rd 3 near Opole Minnesota. Sitting in a drive way yesterday on West side
of road about 1/2
Matthew Bribitzer-Stull and I found the Townsend's Solitaire at Carpenter
Nature Area just north of the bench on Savannnah Trail at 9 am this morning.
Also saw Pileated Woodpecker, Bald Eagles and American Tree Sparrows.

CBC participants Dick and Gloria Wachtler found a Townsend's Solitaire at about
9:30 a.m. this morning along the west Edge of Eagle Lake. It was along
Sherburne CR 5, approximately 4.5 miles south of the entrance road to Sherburne
NWR's Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. It was sitting atop a
Matthew Bribitzer-Stull and I found a beautiful male Long-tailed Duck at Point
Douglas Park at 11 am today. It was loosely associating with a flock of Common
Mergansers about 200 m north of park in open water. Scope definitely helps.

Tony Hertzel saw a black-billed magpie outside our refuge office/HQ about 11:15
or so - it flew up river from the office.
Our office/HQ is on Sherburne CR 9, five miles west of Hwy. 169.

Matthew Bribitzer-Stull and I found 5 Brown-headed Cowbirds (2 ad males and
3 ad females) at the cattle feed lot on the southwestern corner of where
240th St SE intersects with Emery Ave (MN 56). This area is southeast of
Hampton and north of Randolph. The birds were seen on lines above the
cattle
With a few counters still out, we have a prelim count of 42 species today,
which I think is excellent. A few comments:
Townsend's solitaire reported earlier at Eagle Lake, south of Orrock.
Black-billed magpie at refuge headquarters (hasn't been seen this afternoon, as
far as I know)
Hertzels
Jay Hamernick and Jim Pasch found a red-shouldered hawk just south of Orrock
along CR 5 this afternoon. Sherburne CBC is up to 42 species!

This afternoon under a blue sunny sky from 3:15 - 3:45 I observed both the
adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and the Franklin's Gull out on the ice of Lake
Calhoun in Minneapolis, Hennepin County.
