I flushed a flock of 25-30 common redpolls from the roadside this morning, they
started out in Benton County and then flew south over the Sherburne County
line, and than back north into Benton again. They were feeding on weed seeds
right beside the road.

Four American Tree Sparrows are feeding today at Sherburne HQ too - they're not
here daily, so fun to see.

The Carolina Wren, first reported in early December 2011, continues to make
regular visits to the feeder station at the Visitor Center in Wild River State
Park. It has handled the recent cold-snap and snow well. It appears to be
healthy and active. As before, the bird is best viewed from
Not MN but a great adventure. Older birders may remember Henry Killinstad of
Marshall, MN who found the first nest of this species near Nome, AK. It's a
fascinating story with photos--Google The Eggs and Young of the
Bristle-thighed Curlew for the original article in The Auk.

Correction on my previous posting. The Varied Thrush is in Blue Earth County. I
am sure it would be just as happy in Nicollet County, but it is not there.

I did not find the Western Tanager. It was around 2:15pm and I was there for
about 25 minutes. There was fresh snow and the only footprints in the yard
were mine.
