The back yard has been much quieter without the Dark-eyed Juncos, since they
left 3 days ago. This year I added millet and milo to the seed mix so I had a
lot of ground feeders.

Just in case you were wondering...
I got confirmation that there was a Pied-billed Grebe on pool 6.
A Northern Harrier flew over - before arriving at the pool 6 area.
At pool 10 there was a cluster of black looking birds that would fly up as a
group and then land back down - kind of like
Yesterday afternoon there were 5 Black-crowned Night Herons roosting along
Minnehaha Creek, just next to the bridge over Nokomis Ave. Four of them
were dozing in the sun, while the fifth was preening and checking out the
passers-by.
Under the 28th Ave. bridge, a very small and dark flycatcher was

hi michelle-thanks for your postings about CA-I haven't been there but
intend to go this spring. generally speaking in terms of sightings you've
had over the years, are the birds you see there within good distance for
photo work or are they quite far off ? I do have a long lens but of course
This previously mentioned location is shaping up nicely to be a worthwhile
shorebird area in the coming weeks. Today, I counted just under 400
individual shorebirds present. Almost every one of these were either

Okay I have to admit to being pretty busy lately and
Had some new birds in Douglas County yesterday and today. Yesterday Lake
Osakis had Red-Necked Grebes and today they were joined by Horned Grebes
and a handful of Western Grebes. I'm not sure whether they came in on
yesterday's south winds or today's westerly winds. Had a Raven for the 4th

My sister Mary(who commutes from Chisolm to Duluth) reported to me
that there are two Swans, presumably Trumpeters, along US 53 at mile marker
50 in Caribou Lake on the west side of 53. This is evidently very near the
wayside which is on the east side of US53. She sees them regularly in the

Ill get a pic up. It was sitting on a dock in redwing on pool 4 of the
mississippi. My buddy has the pic on his phone, I will get it from him and post
it up. We took the pic at about 15 feet away.
It was seen on April 5th in Red Wing.

Kathy and I had less diversity late this afternoon (Saturday).
The winds were strong and we didn’t see much in Pool 10 (the usual Mallards and
Canada Geese). Pool 9 showed some Red-winds, Sandhill Cranes (flying
overhead), immature Bald Eagles (on a far shore -- odd) and several looks at
Zooming my way to SD I had to turn my car around at a lake on 169 (north side)
just east of Brownton. There were good mud flats and dozens of distant
shorebirds. The wind and my need to git goin' led to cursory IDs for Greater
Lssr YLs and Pectoral SPs. There where other sizes present
