Sorry for the sort of topic post. Does anyone have the May edition of Birding
Magazine that contains the image I took of the Brown Pelican from Red Wing,
MN? If you are willing to part with it I would appreciate it. They were
supposed to send me a copy and I never received it.

I was on the Mississippi River between the Camden Bridge and the new Lowry
Ave Bridge and saw the newly established rookery. There was a camper on
the island even. From the east river bed without binoculars I could see at
least eight nests.
I know the herons lost their rookery in last years
This morning I spent a couple hours at the arboretum turning up some migrants
and went out to the New Germany area for shorebirds. I did not go to 158th St,
so I missed on the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, but it's good to know that they are
here. The biggest surprise of the day was a Dunlin.

At Noon today, from the west side on the pond:
Semipalmated Plover - 1
Killdeer
Lesser Yellowlegs
Greater Y.
Least Sandpiper
Semipalmated S.
Baird's S. - 3+
Stilt S. - 14
Also, a lone Franklin's Gull was on the island, and a Peregrine was buzzing
back and forth, stirring up the shorebirds.
I saw a Merlin flying north over Coon Rapids Blvd at Hiway 10 at 1430. The bird
was low to the deck (20'?) and moving fast.

Today I went looking for the chat that had been reported. I spent a couple of
hours near the Bergson Pool sign at 8am and again at 11am. I heard a few
distant sounds which could have been a chat but nothing verifiable
materialized. There was a yellow-billed cuckoo and a blue jay in the area
Thanks to a phone call from Greg Garmer, who reported seeing 100s of
nighthawks while driving along the North Shore near the McQuade Safe Harbor
east of Duluth this evening, I rushed down to the Duluth Lakewalk in time
to witness a relatively early big push of nighthawks along the North Shore.

Down at the stage in Duluth's Leif Erickson Park this evening, starting right
before dusk at about 1950k (7:50 PM local time), watched waves of Nighthawks
darting and diving over my head as they winged their way south along the shore
of Lake Superior. The main parade of 100-125 birds
