I was on the Mississippi River between the Camden Bridge and the new Lowry Ave Bridge and saw the newly established rookery. There was a camper on the island even. From the east river bed without binoculars I could see at least eight nests. I know the herons lost their rookery in last years

This morning I spent a couple hours at the arboretum turning up some migrants and went out to the New Germany area for shorebirds. I did not go to 158th St, so I missed on the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, but it's good to know that they are here. The biggest surprise of the day was a Dunlin.

At Noon today, from the west side on the pond: Semipalmated Plover - 1 Killdeer Lesser Yellowlegs Greater Y. Least Sandpiper Semipalmated S. Baird's S. - 3+ Stilt S. - 14 Also, a lone Franklin's Gull was on the island, and a Peregrine was buzzing back and forth, stirring up the shorebirds.
