Sax-Zim Bog CBC was above average with 31 species tallied on Friday Dec 21st.
Highlights included...
3 Great Gray Owls (2 along west side of McDavitt and one on Admiral)
1 N Hawk Owl (on CR7 just N of Sax Rd)

This morning I had a flock of ten common redpolls land in my tree. They didn't
come to my feeders though, but they still count!

I think the same Hoary Redpoll was at our feeder first thing this morning and
spent some time sitting on the snow.
Then about 11 a.m., a Carolina Wren made a brief appearance at our suet feeder.

Has anyone seen the Great Black-backed Gull yesterday (Friday) or today
(Saturday) on Harriet, Calhoun, or Lake of the Isles; if so, what time was
it observed? Lesser Black-back, Glaucous, Iceland, etc. also of interest.

I was out about nine am to the Coon Rapids dam when I saw all the ducks
scattered. I looked around expecting to see a bald eagle but instead my photos
revealed that I had a golden eagle. When I got home I sent my photo to Scott
Mehus at the National Eagle center and he confirmed that it
Wanted to let folks know that Ron Taube just sent me photos of a first year
Golden Eagle by the Coon Rapids Dam. It appeared to be working the
waterfowl located on the river.

The Gray Catbird that showed up in our yard in Shoreview on December 13th has
been back today in the same spot near one of our birdbaths.
If it is going to overwinter, our yard should be a good place for it.

I took a drive along the Mississippi from Elk River to Champlin along the
Great River Road. I saw approximately 150 Trumpeter Swans some at most stops
along the way. I saw a few Bald Eagles, one was on a nest in the middle of a
probable Heron Rookery in Otsego. I also saw what looked like a group
I checked out both Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet this evening for gulls.
200+ gulls (almost none at L. Calhoun) were on the ice and limited open
water on L. Harriet. I arrived at the south end around 4:20/4:30. Sean
