This afternoon we had a flock of 2 dozen Snow Geese fly over us on
Highway 52 near Oronoco. They were flying south in the direction of
Rochester. We didn't realize at the time that this was quite a rare
sighting for the area at this time so we didn't chase them down for
photos.

The injured pelican is still on the east end of Black Dog Road. Does anyone
know of someone who can rescue the bird? It was on the shore when I
saw it. I'm surprised it lasted past the Polar Vortex.

Saw the Hawk Owl yesterday while it was being banded by David Alexander and
Frank Nicoletti of Duluth. They thought it was a young male. I saw the owl
again today at 2pm. It's great to see this bird in McLeod cty and only a few
miles from my home.

The white throated sparrow and the Fox Sparrow survived the cold blast that
came through here. We were hoping they would make it through that cold weather,
they have the cover, food and water here which is very important. It is so
nice to look out the window and see them and all the other bird
To further support what Bill said, while they don't always overwinter, we've
had winter reports of Yellow-rumpeds in Minnesota from 19 of the past 20
years. (See http://moumn.org/loon/reports/?species=Yellow-rumped Warbler)
