Mullarney, Svensson and Zetterstrom
The one with the Bullfinch on the cover. It's one of the finest field
guides in print.

I agree with Chris that Mullarney et al. is a fine book, but be aware that the
print is quite tiny. (I'm sure this was necessary to pack so much information
into a book it's size.)
Lars Jonsson's book is also very good.

Adult Snowy Egret observed at Bass Ponds, Hennepin County at 120pm today. Seen
feeding around 100 yards south of main trail, approx 0.5 mile east of Hwy 77.
Yellow lores and feet, black beak and legs clearly visible. Flew off to
southeast across water and not relocated.

There is currently an adult male Eurasian Wigeon being seen at the Purgatory
Creek Wetlands in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County. The EUWI is in with a large
raft of Coots and a variety of ducks. There were no American Wigeons in the
flock, and the EUWI really stood out in a crowd. A scope would

We are outside and we had put our Purple Martin houses up about an hour ago and
we have our first purple martin here. What a pleasure to see them back again.
Our colony is starting, we have a few more joining, and these are not European
Starlings.

I took the "scenic route" home from Big Lake today, after seeing the
white-winged scoter, and wandered along some of the lesser-traveled county
roads, finding some FOY birds, as well as a LOT of waterfowl.
On Big Lake:

American White Pelican - flying over
Double-crested Co
Of interest there were over 100 rusty blackbirds in the flooded woods along
Shore Acres rd in La Crescent today. Also in a flooded sod farm field off Hwy
16 near Hokah there were several greater Yellowlegs a couple of lesser
Yellowlegs and a pectoral sandpiper
No other shorebirds sighted did se
