Had a few new birds in Douglas yesterday: Warbling, Blue-Headed and
Yellow-Throated Vireos, Black and White, Orange Crowned, Wilson's, Yellow,
Nashville Warblers and C. Yellowthroat, Savannah and Vesper Sparrows and a

Summer tanager present @ 1050 north end of Prarie loop approx .4 miles south of
the park boundary/ 50th (straight @ 1st fork). Calling from slope on west side
then flew over prairie loop trail and called from east side. Happy birding.

Late this afternoon, Steve Schon and I saw a loggerhead shrike working the
softball field complex on Old Airport Road at the east end of Ely
It crossed the road to the Ely Cemetery just before we left at about 4:30
p.m.
This is only the third loggerhead shrike that I have seen in my 38 years in

Yesterday (May 9, 2015) and today I have had a Western Tanager at my suet
feeder on Thomas Lake near Two Harbors. This is my first sighting of a Western
Tanager and I got some pretty good photos to confirm the sighting. Anyone else
been seeing Western Tanagers?

I was contacted by Joe Conley, who refound the Afton State Park CERULEAN
WARBLER that I reported two days ago. He said it was on the Trout Brook
Loop, along the portion closest to the road (St. Croix Trail), at the
bottom of the long hill. Joe said the bird was singing and acting
aggressively towa
