I found three snowy owls in their western Dodge Co. wintering grounds around
sunset yesterday. One east of 150th Ave. north of 700th St. The second south
of 690th and east of 120th. The third on a utility pole on 685th St.
All these owls were females. The two nearly pure white males seen in

No really big news. There were only a couple of small leads in the
ice, and the few gulls present on Calhoun left about 4:10 p.m.

Gorgeous and tame little white gull. It was eating salmon filet (thanks Pedar!)
only 12 feet from us (behind the green locked gate at the north pier in
Duluth's Canal Park.

Anyone have any idea what this bird might be:
Today driving the back roads from Little Falls to Brainerd, central Minnesota,
I saw a bird about the size of a crow but look a little more like a hawk. It
was very dark, either black or very brown, when it flew there was a distinct
band of white
Saw the following along Long Lake Trail below headquarters nature ctr. in
Bloomington, Hennepin Co.
Red bellied woodpecker
Juncos
White crowned sparrow
Chickadees
Northern Harrier, and
likely Tree sparrows
