This Sunday evening, April 22, 2018, seen on Como Lake (St. Paul, Ramsey
Co.):
At least 5 Loons (there may have been a sixth--they kept diving--hard to
tell)
Large flock of American Coots
Several Horned Grebes
At least 2 pairs of Ruddy Ducks
Ring-necked Ducks (smaller flock than last week)
Sm
While the lake lacked the numbers and some of the diversity of yesterday,
it was still worth a look. After finally seeing the pair of Red-necked
Grebes, we were treated to some possible breeding behavior on their part.

Saw a male Eastern Bluebird in Shoreview (Ramsey Co.) at Ahats Wildlife
Observation Area. About 1 mile north of Hwy 96 W and Lexington Ave N.
Came home to Lino Lakes (Anoka Co.) and there was a pair inspecting one of our
houses and singing beautifull
The best spot to view Lake Byllesby now is at Lakewood Cemetery east of
Randolph. I believe that is Dakota County Highway 86.

Two Gray-cheeked thrushes at Bredesen Park nature area Edina along 9 mile Creek
this AM. Very cooperative and offered excellent looks. Also FOY Northern
Flicker.

5 American Avocets and 20 Bonaparte’s Gulls at the Big Stone Dam on US 75. The
White-faced Ibis reported two days ago by Correll were not found. Ken Larson at
Prairie Marsh Farm.

Salt Lake in Lac Qui Parle County is still primarily ice covered except for the
south west corner and along the edges. That being said the temperature out here
today is 57 degrees with a 15 mph wind from the south. I would hope that the
ice will be gone this week with consistent warmer weather.
If you are looking for a place to bird, I suggest Lake Byllesby in southern
Dakota County between Canon Falls and Randolph. The birding yesterday was
spectacular.
We counted some 30 species of waterfowl, not counting the 400 - 600 Tundra
Swans in the fields a mile or so to the north and east of Ra
We're was the open water area? I guess we went to bring spot. Right off 52
right?
