Keith Olstad and I birded the area around Vermillion and Lake Byllesby in
Dakota County. Eighteen variety of water fowl including blue-phase and
white-phase (possible Ross's) geese, all there mergansers, happily a good
number of canvasback, and other
My sister reported to me that they had a woodcock flush from their backyard in
Plymouth near Lost Lake by 169 and Rockford Road yesterday. It flew out of
their yard to somewhere else in the neighborhood.

Waterfowl were scarce this morning, but Maureen & I spotted several
first-of-year birds. All our viewing was from the eastern shore and
from the dam. Noteworthy:
Pied-bill Grebes - 2
Hooded Mergansers - 9
Wood Duck - 3
Common Goldeneye ~6
Bald Eagle - pair perched on the island nest
As of today all the available seats for the third annual MOU Spring
Birding Primer at Carpenter Nature Center on Saturday, March 30 have been
