During the
my
deck whistling, and as I watched a male flew to the branch and mated with her.
The male then flew to a nearby high bush, removed a short branch with a few
leaves and flew high up in a nearby tree where a nest appears to be in the
making. Spring is here!

A lone male rose-breasted grosbeak this afternoon in Mendota Heights. Have
red-bellied and pileated nesting about 8 feet apart in separate trunks of the
same aspen clump...it is not going well for the red-bellied !

there were 50-75…one of my favorite winter birds !

You are correct about jelly being stickey, particularly when the
temperature is in the 50º. Twenty or so years ago I found an oriole
completely mired in my grape jelly feeder, and it took some time to clean
him up so he could fly away.

Tom, I have 50-60 YRW swarming my suet feeders and devouring the grape
jelly, assisted by a half dozen orioles,and by two or three cape may
warblers. I have never seen the jelly disappear so fast.

I had the same circumstance three years ago with robins at my heated bird
bath. At times the entire perimeter of the bird bath was wing to wing
robins...mine were feeding on flowering crab apples so I had a red ring
around the perimeter of the bird bath

I observed a Boreal Owl in Pine County today about noon on Cty. 30 between
Cty.22 and Cty 24, and 15 GGOs on Cty. 30 and Cty. 22 between noon and 5PM.
