I’m currently looking at a male painted bunting in Mankato, Blue Earth co. This
is on the Red Jacket Trail about .15 miles south of Moreland street.

at the
north end of Indian Lake in Mankato. This is on 202nd St, just east of
Indian Lake Road. This bird is presumably one of the same individuals being
seen at Land of Memories, but I was a little surprised to see it this far
from the other sightings.

Adult male summer tanager at Murphy Hanrehan forest trails right now. It’s been
singing at various perches near trail markers 15, 13, and 14.

Seen along the edge of the reefs of the first pond on the west side after
coming down the hill from the parking area. West edge of the pond near some
Canada goose nests

The bird is being seen off and on this morning (Saturday) at the previously
reported location. Patience may be required as it has spent some time hiding in
clumps of grass.

Sunday morning both ducks present between 6:30 and 7. First at the small
farm pond at 33700 181st Ave, located just southwest of Lake Eggert, then
later along the south shore of Lake Eggert.

At 4:30 this afternoon there was an adult male snowy owl perched on a
telephone pole on 170th St. about 1/4 mile east of Hwy 52. This is just
south of the town of Coates.

Juvenile Plegadis ibis present in a wetland along with numerous other
shorebirds. Wetland is along 140th street about 1/4 mile north of 170th ave (or
3/4 mile south of C.R. 36)

There is a white-throated sparrow singing in south Minneapolis. Seemed to be
coming from a tree on the north side of 31st street between 34th and 35th
avenues, although I did not have optics with me and was not able to see it.

There is a female summer tanager hanging out at the corner of 34th ave and 33rd
st in south minneapolis right now. It was going from tree to tree on the
southeast corner, kitty corner from the Saarinen church.

and Snelling. I happened to have binoculars in the car and managed
to pull off in time to view it fly from its perch and over my head as crows
pursued it. It flew west of Fairview and out of sight. I did see some dark
barring on the wings as it flew, suggesting it was a female or first year
bird.

There is a gravel pull-off on the south side of Flying Cloud Drive, about
100 yards east of the county line. Park there and walk down toward the lake.

The bird was still present at the same spot between 10 and 11 am today
(Thursday 10/20), active and feeding on both sides of the road. Thanks to

A Nelson's Sparrow is at the end of the boardwalk at Old Cedar Avenue,
Bloomington (8:30 am Sunday morning). It has given us several great looks at it
moved through the reeds on both sides of the boardwalk.

to refind the
buff-breasted sandpiper, although another birder there had seen one before
we arrived. Some of the good habitat is quite far from the road and even
with a scope many of the birds there were too distant to identify.
