go find it, but hopefully many will enjoy this rare sight.
Harassment can be a problem during nesting season, but it seems to me that
viewing this bird under these circumstances is not likely to be problematic at

A juv. Red Crossbill appeared at our feeder at about 8 this morning here in
Long Prairie. It is back now at 8:35 feeding on sunflower seeds. Pictures

Jerry, Carol, Connie Jo and Scott Dirks found the following noteworthy birds at
N Ottawa today:
One of the two King Rails was seen along the flooded portion of 250th street
where previously reported. We were east of the flooded portion standing near
the road intersection by the culverts
Has the varied thrush been seen recently near Kabekona Lake in Hubbard County?
If so, where and is access restricted or permission needed?

Other shorebirds of interest were about 10 American Avocets feeding in the
vicinity of the tall post out in he lake and two Black-bellied Plovers to the
left of the post and toward the far shoreline of the lake.

Other FOY birds were a pair of rusty blackbirds, a vesper sparrow, hermit
thrush and yellow-bellied sapsucker, all viewed from County Highway 10.

We spent most of yesterday afternoon with Jerry and Carol Dirks walking the
Platte River Trail at Crane Meadows NWR near Little Falls. The walk produced
24 species, about half of which were first of the year birds for us. Sightings
included a resting flock of about 300 greater white-fronted ge
able to walk beneath
it before it flew to the branches of a large tree in the back yard, where it
was joined by a second one. These were the first Eurasian Collared-doves that
we have seen in Todd County.

Connie Jo and I found and photographed a Townsend's Solitaire today on the Long
Prairie CBC. The Todd County location was on the south side of 170th Street
about 2/10 of a mile east of 241st Avenue. A small piece of pink surveyor's

about 100 yards west of Zorbaz.

The Mute Swan was still at the New Prague sewage pond this morning at about 11,
along with two Trumpeter Swan and hundreds of other waterfowl. Thanks to Bob
Williams for yesterday's post about this find by John and Chris Hockema.

Juvenile common moorhen seen this morning at 830 at same location where 3 (
including at least one adult) have been seen and reported by others recently.

Connie Jo and I just found a snowy egret and a cattle egret with 2 great
egrets. They were in the pasture on the south side of county road 22 about
3/10ths of a mile east of 20th Ave NW. This is about 2 miles east of Clontarf.

The snowy owl was found perched on a telephone pole at 7:30am today 3.7 miles
north of the Osakis city limits on Douglas CR3.
