A huge wave of warblers was present all day long in our spruces...hundreds
of individuals of 22 different species. Much of our yard is an overgrown
x-mas tree plantation, and these spruces always act as a migrant trap in
the spring. We have had fairly good numbers of warblers all week
We will be driving to Mankato this weekend (from our home in Cotton) and I
would love to show my younger son a Red Headed Woodpecker, a bird he has never
seen. I would welcome any advice about reliable areas to search between here
and there, or any other great birding areas near St
Present this morning on Melrude Rd just S of Berg Lake Rd. This area is worth
checking if you fail to see owls in the bog proper, as up to three individual
birds have been present in the last few days.

Northern Hawk Owl: west melrude rd (59), three miles east of Hwy 53
Great Gray Owl: Stone Road, one mile east of Lee Rd (which in turn is located
just south of the melrude town hall and pub)
