The eastern bluebirds typically nest in our yard every year. After fledging,
they usually leave for a few weeks, returning as a family in late summer, then
leaving again. There is usually another stopover around now by what are
probably migrating eastern bluebirds- maybe the same ones but
Guess I'll throw in my two cents on Eastern Bluebirds. I heard a couple
burbling southwest of my house on March 18th. So they survived the blizzard on
the 15th. Yay.
On April 4th, a male and female spent quite a bit of time in my yard
flycatching, foraging and bathing. They were back on April

14 bluebirds today, moving up the road on the south wind. The ground is
probably 80% snow covered. Good luck bluebirds.

Tree swallows arrived a few days ago as well.

Lots of birds moving around Benton, Mille Lacs and Sherburne Counties today,
mostly waterfowl, hawks and blackbirds. Canada geese and trumpeter swans
flying every which way. One group of 4 Canada geese had a snow goose with them
- that was at the refuge this morning.

Watched on nest cam as our eastern bluebird laid her fifth egg, like
clockwork, each one delivered between 9:30 and 10 am.
I feel for her, a great deal of effort involved.
We have been amazed at the number of Painted Ladies on our lawn, horse
pasture, and grape jelly feeders.

Observed a pair of bluebirds at Fort Snelling State Park at the roadside
before one reaches the parking lots and visitor center/gift shop at the road
terminus. I notice there are some nest boxes a little further from the
road so presumably these birds are claiming territory.

There has been a small flock of bluebirds in my backyard all week,
yellow-rumped warblers, and the usual chickadees, goldfinches, juncos,
red-bellied woodpecker, bluejays but I am really enjoying watching the
bluebirds. :)

First thing this morning when we checked the nest cam found that te
Eastern Bluebirds had fledged-right on time.
This afternoon while sitting on the deck we observed two adults
losading up on mealworms and flying off into the woods.
Interestingly on several occasions we observed a juvenile
In May I spotted an Eastern Bluebird in my neighbor’s yard. Good spot but I
did not pay much attention to it since we have very little open Bluebird
habitat around here and I assumed it was in transit somewhere else, like Baker
Park. For the last 2 weeks, my neighbor has seen Bluebirds in her
I have a bluebird sitting on 5 eggs now. It's the third brood of the
season. The first was lost to predation when the chicks were 3 days old,
and the second fledged 4 chicks, which the parents are currently feeding.
I did notice that they started almost a month later this year than they
did last
I've been seeing them in my yard in Coon Rapids too. Never thought I'd be
considering putting up a BB house here. They've been in my bird bath. :-)

Thanks for all of the responses to my Bluebird inquiry. I did not know they
nested this late, since they are usually among the earliest ones. ‘Course they
also stay around ‘til late.
Does this mean I now have to put up a Bluebird house in addition to my Wood

Planned to remove our nestcam Tuesday, but discovered new nesting
material in the bluebird box. Today checked on camera and found a
completed nest and one egg.

We have been feeding a male Eastern Bluebird the past week and
yesterday it was joined by a female. We have seen her on and in and
out of the house. If she does nest it will be the eariest for us.
Darned cold and windy, but we will try to install the video camera in
the house this afternoon.
I saw 6 Eastern bluebirds today at Bunker Hills park. Most were singing males
but I did see one pair (m and f)on a nest box.
I also observed a total of 5 turkey vultures sailing high overhead, heading due
north.

Thanks for the replies, it seems clear now that the fledglings left
the nest box prematurely. They were just 13 days old and clearly
unable to fly. The one we found alive and placed back in the box got
out an hour or so later and we did not find it again. I had considered

I happened to be working from home today and was looking out back,
watching a flicker at my suet feeder. I noticed the chickadees checking
out the nest box, and then saw a pair of bluebirds! Managed to get a few
photos. Last time I had bluebirds nest in my yard was a few years ago, and

Sorry for the delay but didn't have access to laptop till this morning. I went

Hi Birders,
As I drove up my driveway at about 4:30 PM on Friday (1/9) five Eastern

huddle together in the box to stay warm for the night. Several
