Seen this afternoon from the public boat ramp that is on the south shore.
It was diving actively between mid-lake and the north shore. Rob spotted it
with binoculars, and the scope helped nail the ID.
I couldn't refind the Eared Grebe from yesterday, but the great mix of
ducks remained, along with
Here is a fascinating article about the Clark's Nutcracker and the Whitebark
Pine. It is a long article but well-worth spending the time to read it.

I am, apparently, the last Minnesotan to see the Clark's Nutcracker near
Winona. I see that Mr. Hoekstra saw it on the 4th. Has it been seen since
then?
Thanks!

Very nice looks at a cooperative bird. Still present at 1:30 today. It was
roosting on the small satellite dish on the side of the house number
24185. The homeowner
came out and was very nice and ok with us parked on the shoulder by her
house.

Yesterday I observed the Clark's Nutcracker in both yards: 24092 and 24185
County Road 9. I couldn't find anything on Google Maps that referred to
this road as Cedar Valley Road, so if you're trying to figure out
directions, just use County Road 9. Curt Rawn's instructions were

I have posted a number of photos and a video on my website:
The homeowners now request that we stay off their property. They have been
wonderfully hospitable, but the bird has attracted more attention than we all
thought. The good news is that the bird has been frequenting power lines along
Cty Rd 9 just "upvalley" from this property.

The Clark's Nutcracker is still in the Winona area today. 24092 Cedar

I saw it at the posted house and across the street and to the west.

There has been a Clark's Nutcracker visiting the home of retiree Bruce Little
since about 9/7. The bird has become a little more sporadic as of late, but is
seen most day. There is no feeder around but it likes to hang around the

First we located a single Clark's Grebe associating with a pair of Western

I spent about 3 hours in the area reported and did not see the Clark's
Nutcracker. 3900 Northwoods Drive has many fruit trees that are around the
parking lots of these buildings. These are attracting some robins, and a shrike
was seen, too, ...plus many wondering birders.

I have numerous reports that the Clark's Nutcracker is still being seen in
Shoreview. Late yesterday afternoon, I watched as it flew east to the small
grassy area on the NE corner of Hodgson Road and Ramsey County Road I, and it's
still there today.

Thank you to all who posted these sightings. At 2:30 the Clark's Nutcracker

of its intersection with St. Alban's St. At first it had been hunting
insects in the grass right at the intersection to the east, across from the

At 2:15 pm this afternoon, a Clark's Nutcracker was spotted flying over the

Kim Eckert's MBW group is currently looking at a Clark's Grebe on Oak Leaf

associating with a few Western Grebes. There is also a late Greater
White-fronted Goose on the south end of the lake.

Sunday, July 25 I relocated one of the three Clark's Grebes reported earlier by
Denny and Barb Martin. Sadly, the bird seemed to be critically injured - one
foot was extended behind and twisted up. It tried several times to stretch the
leg, only to have it return to the same twisted position.
Found a Clark's Grebe with a single young riding on its back on Gorder Lake in
Stevens County on July 3rd. Unfortunately, it seems to be paired with a
Western Grebe, which I believe may be the case with all breeding records of
Clark's Grebe in Minnesota. In this case a typical western was
