I have two properties near Marine on St. Croix; one in the river valley and
one up above, close by the northern edge of William O'Brien SP. I have
never had RBNH at the river cabin, and have them up above beginning in the
fall, ending in spring. But I've had two at the cabin this past week or so,

I just had red-breasted nuthatch at my feeder in Edina today . I see others
have been reported in the state through MOU. What I find interesting is that I
did not have a single RNBH at my feeders for the Cornell Project FeederWatch
counts last year.

Add Red-breasted nuthatch to southern Dakota County, Empire Township (just

I just had a male Red-breasted Nuthatch on my sunflower chip tube feeder.
I see on the MOU occurrence maps that it's "occasional" in the summer in
Anoka County, but it's the first I've seen here in almost 40 yrs after early
May or before late August, (which I assume are late or early migrants).
1 Red-breasted Nuthatch seen at my feeders, 1 mile east of Hope in Steele

I've been watching a red-breasted nuthatch getting little peanut morsels out of
our feeder, then it flies on a low trajectory across the street and buries them
in the leaf litter around my neighbors' foundations. That doesn't seem like a
safe place to store a winter larder. Why would it do that?
A Red-breasted Nuthatch was foraging in the yard yesterday (Sunday) here in
Plymouth. This is the first one seen in our yard since Feb, 2008.
Our “resident” juvenile Broad-winged Hawk stopped by for a visit. On Saturday
he/she caught a squirrel in our neighbor’s yard. Perhaps it will now star
There has been a Red-breasted Nuthatch hanging out at my feeders the
last few days. I rarely have them in the summer as feeder birds, but do
occasionally in the winter months.

On the northeastern edge of Boom Island Park, on the wide mowed path that is
near the fences of abutting houses, I spent ten minutes watching a
red-breasted nuthatch work its way through the few conifers along the path.

We had a brief visit from a Red-Breasted Nuthatch yesterday morning.
This afternoon an extended appearance at a feeder next to our bay
window on a peanut feeder. Unfortunately we had no yet removed the
screen from that window so was unable to get a photo.

We have at least 2 Red-breasted Nuthatch's that have arrived in our yard
today at Dassel in Meeker Cty. It's nice to see them back here. We still have
the RC Kinglets and RE Vireo's here. The Hummingbirds are having a feast at our
feeders yet and keep trying to protect each one.

While eating lunch, I glanced out the window at the feeder and there
was a female red-breasted nuthatch feeding at the suet! WOW!

This morning there was a vocal and visible Red-breasted Nuthatch
foraging in the pine trees behind the Interpretive Center here at
Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. I'm assuming this bird is an
early migrant, as I have not seen or heard one here all summer.
