Checkpoint processor amqzllp0

All, can anybody (maybe from IBM) please provide some detail about what exactly the checkpoint processor process amqzllp0 is doing? Is it a common service process to manage checkpoints for persistent messages that are written to the log or/and does it handle checkpoints for message channel agents?
