I have encountered the exact same problem in my testing. The mqsc output seems fine though. According to the manual, the KAINT parameter is for z\os only. Is this true? The documentation is a bit misleading because it explains keep alive for all platforms and makes this disclaimer at the end.
How about the CCSID for the queue manager? It's missing when I use the
saveqmgr on 5.2 CSD04/05. I have no 5.3 to test on, yet.
Did not know about the KAINT. Are there more glitches with the
saveqmgr program? If there are its use are somewhat limited. You
cannot trust it as a part of an automati
Binary messages are usually sent using MQFMT_NONE, so conversion is not even
considered by the queue manager; meaning there won't be any overhead at all.
Everybody have a nice weekend,

Is there overhead for binary-type messages if they're set over channels set
to CONVERT=YES? Not arguing that conversion shouldn't be done on the get,
but just curious.

On the NT side either download one of the utilities. MO71 or IH03 or execute
the amqsbcg browse program against the queue to display the message so you
can verify if the MQMD Format field is set to string on your message and
what you say the CCSID is really IS. Also the program should be doing an

We have the same environment here (VSE 2.3 actually ) and I see the same
thing happening when I use any of the TSTn transactions in VSE. That's
with conversion set to 'N' on the sending channel.
However, our application-generate messages *do* convert properly going from
VSE to NT.

Try dispay message header, for example with the Windows MQ
Explorer, and check the "Format" of the message. This should be set
to "MQSTR".
If not, you "tell" the receiving application (or the sender
channel) to NOT convert message.
May be the VSE samples are backlevel and do not set the "format"

We have just installed mq series (2.1.1) on our VSE 2.5.1 system. We also
have MQ on an NT platform (MQ 5.2). We setup all the channels, queues etc.
I can send messages to the VSE system and they are converted properly.
When messages are sent from VSE, they are received but the messages are not
Hi,
I'm testing with a 5.3 qmgr and the latest saveqmgr that I downloaded from
IBM is still failing on the KAINT parameter not being cared for by the
program.
Has anybody else seen this? It manifests itself as several messages like:
Unknown PCF Integer Parameter: 1566

The supportpac for the Windows client
is MACV. As for telling if it is installed, if just the client is
installed, you'll see it in Add/Remove programs. I was curious about
my own install because I installed the server and client together on my

Stefan,
I have had issues with the CLASSPATH environment variable for
MQSeries on NT 4.0. I don't remember it being this specific problem however
make sure the mqseries location is not at the tail end of the variable. Go

All this is nice but WHY isn't the conversion being done from OS390 one to
OS390 two. Their business rules are theirs to argue over. I would still like
to know what is preventing the conversion on the channel from being
performed?
