IBM currently have a support pac (MC69) but this is
for use on a v2.x Sun Cluster. I am led to believe that v3 is quite a bit
different to the previous version.

I know that you said this was a 5.2 installation, but is sounds very
much like the type of problems that you run into on 5.3 if you don't have
the proper domain accounts set up. Look at Chapter 11 of the 5.3 Quick
Beginnings manual. Also have you looked at the Windows security

In all likelihood, some maintenance
was applied to HP-UX, causing you to lose some translate tables. You
can run:
reset_iconv_table
to correct it. See IBMLink item
