I usually have messages sorted by threads in folders that are related to
mailinglists (and whare they are normally automativally placed by procmail)
On problem I have is that often people start an entire new thread by replying
to a random message in their mailbox, clearing all text

I asked for exactly the same "prune" and "graft" functions a while
back, but didn't really get anywhere. Pruning is pretty easy; just use
'e'dit-message to get rid of the I-R-T: and Refs: headers, and it's a
new thread. Grafting (putting a message into a thread) is trickier,
