is setup exactly the same, no php problems.
Perhaps somebody has some suggestions?? I've tried upgrading the kernel
version also, as I've read that MySQL has been reported to produce
strange errors on kernel version 2.2.14-5.0, but this did not help.

Aha, much appreciated...your words therefore the target table may not
appear in the SELECT clause have made it clear to me...but can I assume
that if I was to use aliases, then I would be able to sneak past this
problem? :)
