I changed etc/sysconfig/i18n to:
LANG="fr_FR"
SUPPORTED="fr_FR:fr"
SYSFONT="lat0-sun16"
SYSFONTACM="iso15"
and everything works perfectly.

Character-set : latin1
Character-sets : a long list
Convert_Character_set :
Is that like it should be?
