You must specify old password when you set a new one

So far I got advises to install the MySQL-client package & the mysql-devel RPM.
Will do that & report back.
I wouldn't think all that was needed when the MySQL-server-rpm was installed. The
functionality to assign a password should be there.
I'm such a newbie at this, thanks to all again!

Hello
Installed the MySQL-server-4.0.20-0.i386.rpm on a RHL8 system
Initialized the grant tables and then did:
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u rt password ACTUALPASSWORD
And got:
-bash: /usr/bin/mysqladmin: No such file or directory
What gives mates?
