Currently, everything you listed can be done via queries to the server. Take
a look at the MySQL manual for all the queries and their requisite responses.

I would like to try and implement the MySQL socket protocol (or what ever
you would call it), so that I can do all kinds of communication with a MySQL
server, like normal SQL, MySQL environment variables, performance status,
tables helth checks, and what ever is possible.
The reson I need
1) How was it 'installed' Did you use RPMs, the source, or a bindist?
2) Did you make sure mysqld wasn't already running? 'ps auxwww | grep
mysqld'
