If you are using a myisam type which is default that log message isn't a
problem. By switching to run level 5 does it work again? I switch
between
run levels on a regular basis so it shouldn't be the runlevel itsel

The error is just telling you the server isn't there. Is this RH?
If it is run..
#>service mysqld restart
and see what messages you get if any and also check /var/log/
re doing anything with phpBB and make sure you can
get around. Otherwise you won't be able to tell if the problem is from
phpBB or from mysqld.

Hi all,
I was able to get mysql up and running and installed phpBB to boot.
Upons reboot I noticed that the mysql daemon was timing out...when I log
into it this is the error I get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through so
: mysql wont start on SUSE
I noticed that my Server works with
[mysql]
user = root
and than start with
mysqld
but when I tried to start with the runlevel editor it doesn't works.
Perhaps a other Person in this list no the answer?
The mysql_install_db create two folders in the var/lib/mysql
mysql and test.
In mysql are the table definitions for passwords etc.
If I solve the problem I will write you an Email

SuSE 8 and for that matter all version of SuSE MySQl doesn't run until
you use YaST to turn it. That why it's not starting. You can start it
your by the following command;
/etc/rc.d/mysql start
If there is no problem with mysql you should see this
mysqld
nstall_db? It's necessary.

Hi!
You can put this into /etc/my.cnf:
[mysqld]
user=root
This will allow to run mysqld as root. However,
consider running it under another account, it is
safer.

Hi,
I am running mysql 3.23.38-log with the my-huge.cnf and I saw that one table was
getting pretty close to the 2gb's so I decided to recompile the mysql with the
--with-raid parameter. And I do so, the compile goes fine and when I tried to run up
the server it did this:
