Actually, when I looked at the code I realized a -DNEW_LIB_EXIF=1 would
force the use of the newer libexif.
So the fix:

I am using myth 0.18.1.20050523-1 with ivtv 4.0.
Pretty much every recording contains flashes of
what appear to be out of sync frames scattered
through out the recording. S annoying.

When the card is encoding and I am watching a recording the remote
can be very slow.
I should also add, that mythcomflag would be running also. I like it to
run as soon as the recording starts.

I am using nvidia driver with my FX5200 TV-Out. I have raised the
OverScan value of the Nvidia driver in xorg.conf and
~/.nvidia-settings-rc. I still have about a 1.5 - 2.0 cm strip
shopping for a GeFroce fx 4000 card. The only one I found
was pci based. But, for $18.00 more the had a fx 5200 agp with 256 meg
of ram with TV and DVI out.
Will this work as good/easy as the 4000 card? I haven't opened the box
yet, just in case the list says it won't work!

I was seeing buffer prepause when attempting live tv playback. It would
pause if mythbackend was started using
/etc/init.d/mythbackend init script. It looks as though there's an issue
when started via 'su' .
so I created an alias in ~/.bashrc
alias mythbackend='mythbackend -v channel,record
Depends on what capture cards you want to use with it. The ivtv
capture cards has
(historically) had some problems with via chipsets. But then again,
my EPIA (via)
backend now runs several months non-stop until it crashes on the ivtv
driver.
