Is it possible to use album art to select which music to play? - ie
click on the album cover to play the album... I couldn't see how to do
this in myth music (or any other linux music program)

I came across this one... It has to do with $HOME not being defined.
My fix was to put at the start of the script:
HOME=/home/mythtv
and then it all started working. Nasty gotcha

You can track which process is reading/writing the disk by doing:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/block_dump
Then use 'dmesg' to tell you process is using the disk. Turn off
tracking again with
echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/block_dump

Hi Lachlan... Is it possible that in the upgrade your apache got
upgraded from 1.3 to 2? If so, it's using a different config file. I
had this problem and it took ages to figure out what was going on.
You need to ensure that apache2 is configured for

I had trouble getting mythweb going last night as well. Chris, maybe
you should include some hints in the README about how to enable
mod_env and mod_rewrite for apache virgins.
In my case, it was as simple as doing:
ln -s /etc/apache2/mods-available/rewrite.load
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/rewrite.
So... Is it possible to have network design with a boss machine which is
- low power, embedded (eg, NSLU, MSS)
- always on
- runs the database
- runs a webserver
- runs a central fileserver for recordings etc.
- wakes up capture-capable boxes when there is recording to do
- has no frontend
. Unless your master backend is a capture-less low power always-on
system running on embedded hardware with only 32MB Ram and no possible
VGA/TV display. I've not even started looking at this, but it should
certainly be possible.

conversion. As John says this functionality is now in SVN, but not
18.x. If you don't want to move to bleeding edge, then maybe this is

Try doing
sudo chmod +s `which mythfrontend`
You'll need the root password.
That should give mythfrontend SUID permissions and you ought to be
able to run realtime thread.
I'm not convinced that this is the whole solution though. If the
thread gets behind, the audio should not go all chirpy whic

computer monitor) until I tried it out. The picture quality is
simply FAR better on a TV than on a monitor.
And also TV looks FAR better on an old fashioned CRT than an LCD or

Some investigation shows that SI Parser is very leaky, devs are aware already.
Seems happier when compiled without --enable-dvb-eit, stabilising at 120m
Still - that's way more than I thought an application such as this
needs. Maybe we should do a bit of profiling...?

One thing I don't understand is why we have a delay between starting
to write to the ringbuffer and displaying to the screen.
Isn't it possible to stream directly from the tuner to the frontend
while writing to the ringbuffer at the same time, and then only switch
to reading data from the ringbuff

I'm considering rearranging my setup as follows, and I need some advice.
Currently I have a single box, with 2x DVB cards, which is on all of
the time. In order to reduce noise and power consumption, I want to
build another v. low power backend box to accomodate these cards and
hibernate when not

If not, try running it on the command line. You should get a message

Right. I have 2x DVB cards in a mini-itx M10K Nehemia system. There is
no problem with performance for simple record/playback, but heat is a
big issue. I don't want to load up with fans due to the noise, so I
have it in a large box with one large fan and I've slowed down the
CPU to 666MHz. If I'd

OK, so where can I buy a USB Lirc capable dongle?
I'm keen to try out an idea I have where the computer lives in a
cupboard, but the IR sensor, LCD screen, powermate knob, card reader
and dvd drive all hang off a USB hub in a pretty box in the living
room in total silence :-)
Does anyone know if Is it possible to use lirc with a USB->Serial
converter and a serial receiver plugged into it? I tried it once, but
I think my converter was duff because nothing at all worked with it..

I had problems with channels for a while, and I put up a one line
script to /usr/local/bin/startchan - rememeber to do chmod +x
/usr/local/bin/startchan afterwords.

FYI, I've got a pair of LR6650 cards, but they can't tune to my
*strongest* mux, and I've not had time to delve into the driver
innards to try to fix it.
YMMV as they say.
I only got them because some guy on ebay was offloading them cheap.
The aerial passthrough is a nice feature.

Yep, I got that too. Does it sound like audio fragments are being
mis-ordered? In speech you can sometimes hear the start of a word
before the end, or some parts of a word being repeated.
Does it go away when you pause/unpause?
My best guess is that there is a bug somewhere in the mpeg audio code

I am experiencing (and have done for about a year) audio problems
which seem to occur most often after a skip forward. It sounds like
the audio is out of order. It is happening less frequently than in
previous versions, but it is still definitely happening.
My setup is Via M10k with unichrome driv
My guess is that you're doing software mpeg decode for some reason. I
got smooth playback in software by going into setup/tv/playback and
disable deinterlacing. Treat this as a diagnostic step rather than a
solution :-)

I've just got mythweb going on my Knoppix system, though this tip
should apply to any Debian derivative. Mysql was not listening to the
network, so mythweb could not connect to it.
I had to adjust /etc/mysql/my.cfg as follows:

fashioned tube TV. I thought that my LCD monitor just wasn't optimized

I have my myth box (Via M10k) running with a monitor mostly, but I can
also hook it up to a TV. I've got two separate xorg.conf files and
have to manually select which one to use when I swap over, and then
reboot to get the TV output.
I could do a nasty hack and have 'tv' and 'monitor' scripts whi

Has anyone played with buffer sizes to determine the minimum safe
buffer size required?
How obtrusive would it be to timestretch output in order to achieve a
bigger buffer over the 1st 10 secs like they do on Radio in case
