Is there any way for me to either A) tell MythTV to use a user defined
volume control or B) change the ALSA volume control identifier?
I have searched my personal MythTV archives (gmail) and done some
light googling but I probably don't know what to search for exactly.

Let's put it this way, I never read anything other than parts of the

And for zapping hte channels, 2 seconds e.g. are too long for me.
So, question:
what can I do to reduce the time needed for switching channels ?
Question: Couldn't you just use tvtime for regular tv viewing if you
just want to channel surf?

Do you, by chance, have a virtual resolution specified for you color

if you see anything similar to the following line in yout xorg.conf

As for the northbridge, you can probably just replace that with a
bigger heatsink (with no fan), just make sure the case has good air
flow.
Also, I would highly discourage getting fans from CompUSA, the last 2
I have bought from there died in a matter of weeks under perfectly
normal conditions.
