Basically, they're not working.
I've compiled Nagios with cmdgroup=nagcmd, added Nagios and apache users
to the nagcmd group.
I can see the commands being written to Nagios.cmd in /opt/nagio/var/rw/
however they don't go

did you installed net_snmp before compiling pluggins?
look in the libexec subfolder if you have check_snmp... if you installed
nagios in /usr/local/nagios it should be in /usr/local/nagios/libexec
if you didn´t installed net-snmp before you should do it and recompile
pluggins

from the Internet). Starting last night, Verizon is now bouncing the
mail, saying:

It most probably not Nagios that you should configure rather than your
SMTP server (Sendmail, postifx,...)
You should change it so that it masquerades your server.domain.internal
domain into a legit one. It's quite simple you should find all the info
needed on the Net.
