For what it is worth, even of not a nagios issue, from the error it appears
that your input string should be pipe-delimited.
So to test you'd do something like

It would be very common for a machine with multiple CPU's to have a
higher load. On a 16 CPU machine, no processes would be waiting at all
with a load under 16.

on my 64 bit box as the user nagios, with out a problem. my nrpe.cfg line
looks like this:

regularly and show it in a critical state in the console(CRITICAL - Socket
timeout after 30 seconds ) but no alerts are sent out for it.

sending out requests to nrpe on the network interface that I didn't
originally set up with, and this is causing problems with the SSL handshake

Currently have an annoyance where a DOWNTIMESTART is sent for all
hosts in downtime when Nagios is reloaded. Is the correct behavior? It
seems slightly unncesssary to receive such an email every time a
config change is made and Nagios is reloaded.

CDs installed, no updates applied.

Smartctl on the servers claims the scsi drives do not support smart. I
configured the servers and have full access.
What options does nagios give for monitoring disk health for such a
configuration?
y how do I invoke them from within Nagios?
I have reviewed the standard .cfg files for assistance, but it hasn't been
obvious to me, yet.

Has the Nagios central service been ported to Windows? I know the
central monitoring system is available for the Redhat and Debian worlds,
but does it exist for Windows? I have a Windows XP machine I may want to
use as the NOC.

I believe there are some previous threads about this setup, but if not I'd

When using the Fedora Quickstart, I get to step 7 and type
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg and I
get the following error
Error: Cannot open main configuration file
'/usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg' for reading!
I have check the permissions on /usr/local/nagios
