Hi there nail tech buddies,
While in CVS (pharmacy) a couple of days ago, I saw a nail product that at
first quick glance looked like Shellac(tm). Upon closer inspection,
discoverered that it was an LED gel polish product, geared toward the
person who wants to do her own home gel polish
Susan, Yes you just apply the maniq over natural nails. Many of the
gel companies have a soak off gel clear gel, I personally like Maniq.
And I apply, I usually just use one coat, a little bit thicker. You
can apply regular polish right on top of this. And yest you can keep
it on and
Great!

It's not competition for any of us. There have always been and always will be
people who are as good as we are who do their own nails. They were never going
to be our clients anyway so we haven't lost the potential of their revenue.
Then there will be a second kind of woman who buys this kit
I feel the way Michelle does about this.
What I do not believe for a second is that formulas are different for the
public.
Many techs shop at Sally's and they sell quite a few brands that many of us
use. Why would they change the formula? To make it not work as well? Then
they would have to deal
I am using the Gelish MiniPro LED 45 LED lamp I bought at Sally Beauty for
$50. Yes $50. It is a 20 second base/45 second colour cure. You have to
do fingers and thumbs separately. It works fine. I tried it on toes and it
is too small to sit properly over someone's foot. But yes, it got me
Thanks, great idea.

I only soak okk like every 12 wks in between soak off i buff the gel
to a thin layer and reapply the ECO then do a mani as my mom wants
either gel polish or reguarl polish. We live an hr apart and
sometimes she just takes the regular polish off with nobn acetone
remover and repolishes herself if
I like the term Gelicure it was used on some television program and I
thought it was cute. UV manicure isn't true if you use LED... so I go with
gelicure.
Also, mani q will cure in LED. FYI :)

Actually, it is still uv. It just comes from an led source instead of a
fluorescent source.

One of my sons girlfriends went to gel nails.com and bought CND Shellac and
UV light and now does her treatments at home. She is not a nail tech, she's a
chef! I was shocked that she was able to buy CND products.

Ulta carries 2 gel starter kits.
One is from SuperNail, it's a UV Gel. This kit comes within at sounds like a

The second one is from Red Carpet Manicure. The kit comes
A client came in the other day and asked if I had heard about uv lights causing
cancer. And asked if I use uv or led because led is suppose to be safe.

I wouldn't worry about it, I watched as my relative used one of those kits and
she made a complete mess. She doesn't want to pay me so she does it herself.
Believe me that is not the client that you want in your salon anyway. It's on
her cuticles and doesn't come off as easy as shellac or any

Yes it's gel polish - but not solvent based, it's Akzentz Options
color line or Luxio (I use both, they are both 100% gel, Luxio just is
the new line that soaks off in 10 minutes or less if I were to do a
natural nail service).
Diana uses a soak off gel for a base, I use a hard classic gel.
I've found that putting classic hard gel on my natural nails w/out
enhancements doesn't work.Of course I've only tried that w/ one brand, so
that could be the problem.
I find I prefer the gel polish to the soft gel color. The pure gels are
too rubbery feeling. My clients prefer the gel polishes

The general public doesn't get that there's a difference between MMA and EMA

There's an additive you can buy, 8 oz for $50.95 I believe.
Buy 6 bottles and labels too. Then have fun mixing ANY polish into gel
polish.
The directions are on the bottle :)

So are you saying that when clients come in for a gel polish change instead
of soaking of you just file lightly all of the polish off and smooth but
pretty much leave base on so you just apply polish then topcoat?
