What might be confusing is that I included the 5/3/2004 build which executes
fine.

Is there a more recent nightly build? I try to stay up-to-date.
When I check the nightly builds, the most recent build that I see is
5/25/2004 which is what I'm having a problem with.
NAnt 0.85 (Build 0.85.1606.0; net-1.0.win32; nightly; 5/25/2004)

There might have been an issue in that nightly build. Do you get the same
issue in more recent nightly builds (there haven't been new nightly builds
for a while now, been too busy with Mono, but this will change soon) ?

All,
I have a Windows Server 2003 that only has .NET 1.0 installed.
It fails to execute the build file with the current nightly Nant build.
You'll notice the second backslash (\\) between .NETFramework and
sdkInstallRoot in the 0.85.1606.0 build.
I looked in nant.exe.config but couldn't see where
