I'll gladly help but should mention that I use the Anker ones from the US and
they are excellent...
I have a Google Pixel 2 phone (USB C) and the Anker bricks charge at the

Thanks Tomasz, that's a good suggestion! I added it to the ebay search
list.
If anyone has any alternative sources for purchasing, or wants to sell any,
please share :)

Hi, there,
I'm Al, from the States. I've been lurking around here for a few months,
but thought to introduce myself. I'm certainly no electrical engineer, but
I fell in love early with vacuum tubes of all shapes and sizes. I've messed
with Nixies, Boroughs, Magic Eyes, Dekatrons, the list goes on.
I suspect folks just don't know about communities like this, and feel a
certain pressure to pick up certain tubes from the only sources they are
aware of aka Ebay

You don't need to go all the across the ocean. I bought a 10,000mAh power bank, USB rechargeable with battery status indicator for about $15 from a store in Toronto.. It was a promotional product for intuit QuickBooks. No brand name on it but it has an item number 7121-18WH on the back. mad
It’s ironic there are actually fewer 5971’s than 7971’s. Yet, the 7971 goes for
absurd prices due to size. The 7971 is actually a really common tube. I suspect
the 7971 is the Tulip Mania of DIY electronics. It’s a bubble and it will pop
eventually, if my suspension is true.

Hello Nixie friends,
This is a bit of an off-topic thing, but I finally caved and realized
that I need a USB power bank because my phone runs out of battery too
quickly when I travel. I found this nice-looking power bank from
Duracell here:

Dolam LC-631 tubes? They are slightly taller and slimmer than other B13B
socket tubes and they come with a smooth top.

This is the Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor I had in mind in my suggestion earlier
in the thread, datasheet impedance looks suitable, and I suspect its life will
be much longer than an electrolytic. Even though it’s an SMD part, it should be
able to easily be soldered in place of the electro. I’m g

I did notice there's only 5. Not practical for most if our clocks. I was
thinking of making a seven digit with user selectable 10ths of seconds?
Too much movement? What do you think?

That's great for those of us that have been holding them for 10+ years waiting

I still haven't posted mine, but I might to just post at those type of prices.
My only question is: Why 5? Not 4 or 6.

Way too much! Maybe pros like Dalibor will make a special model just for

You guys have made me curious now about the other 'good' clock I have of

The short lifetime ratings of electrolytics have always worried me. 8,000
hours? That’s about 1 year, though that is at rated operating conditions. This
article discusses dressing of lifespan:
https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/calculating-the-lifespan-of-electrolytic-capacitors-with-de-ratin
Couldn't you wire in a small HV PSU module instead, and bypass the
circuitry for that one?
Not sure that it would necessarily have a better lifespan (depending on who
made it...)
