Hi, the title pretty much says it all. I want to upgrade my kernel to
the latest one using RPMS. I don't want to compile one b/c I don't have
space on my HD for all the development packages.
How do I do this? Just download the RPM and install with Kpackage, of
is there some sort of voodoo
this a
permanent change, so is there some configuration file I could edit to
make this so?

Hi, I was wondering how to change/preview/install fonts for the console
and the X windows system. Is there a nice GUI program for this? I ask
because currently some fonts don't display properly in X programs or the
console, and I don't like to type. :)

Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to set up sendmail in such a way to
have multiple users uses only one E-Mail address, yet each get their own
separate mail. I have a POP3 mailbox at the university, but the rest of
my family doesn't.and I want to let them use it. However, when it
is
I unzipped a tar-ball and attempted to compile it, but when I ran "./configure"
it said it could not create executables. Now , I realize that I'm obviously
missing some development rpm's but I do have make, automake, autoconf, pgcc,
pgcc (C++ support), and perl installed. What my question is,
I downloaded the latest kernel but when I tried to install it with kpackage,
all hell broke loose. It wouldn't mount my FAT partitions, saying something
about a wrong whatever, and my sound stopped working as well. Basically
anything the kernel referred to as a module couldn't be found. So
How do I enable read/write access for all users to my 2 FAT partitions instead
of just the root user? I need to access these partitions.
Thanks
Hi. Whenever I run X programs or use the console/terminal the text is an
unreadable blocky black mess. This seem to only happen with certain fonts.
Why is this, and how do I fix it? Everything else pertaining to video function
seems to work fine.
For the record, I have a 2MB SiS 6205
I downloaded a file that was tar.gz assuming that it was not unlike a zip file
but soon realized that I had no idea how to install on of these files. Any
help is appreciated
Thanks

How do I change the color depth for KDE/Xwindows? I seem to be stuck with
8-bit, but I would like to change it to 16-bit.
Thanks

Go to:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm
and edit "Xservers" file by changing the line entry:
: 0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X
to
: 0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -bpp 16
Thanks, that worked. What other switches are there for that entry in the
Xservers file?
