I have an atx mobo, so in windows, when shutting down, the pc will turn itself off. In linux however, when I shut it down, it seems to attempt to shut it off, but I get a large error message, where it then just stops. I will post any relevant data from the error message shortly.

I've been using Mandrake 8.1 for a while now, and just upgraded to 8.2. The installation went fine, but the first few times I tried logging on to KDE or Gnome, they would either freeze (forcing me to Crtl+Alt+Backspace), stop loading at the blue desktop, or freeze my entire machine forcing

I'd also like to add that KDE takes much longer to start up than it used to, and whenever I lock the screen in KDE, I can never get back with my password, when I know it's right and have tried it over and over. Also, the lock screen button in the Gnome toolbar does nothing!

I've tried defragging multiple times in windows with "rearrange files so my programs start faster" turned off and on, but I get the same problem, so I will look for other defragmenting apps that might help, also partitioning software. Any recommendations? Thanks.
