e sure to check in the bios to
see if the serial port is open! I have been playing around with some
operating systems, and none of them could detect it...checked on a linux
forum and someone mentioned checking to see if the port was actual
well, if that's the case, it has a fer piece to travel

Hi,
I order the boxed set of the official 10.0 from Mandrake on Apr 14...it's
called Discovery 10.0. I cannot find information anywhere about when
Mandrake starts shipping these boxed sets. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Laura
Want to buy
Conexant modems for windows can
get updated drivers of the Linux version. The particular thread on the Dell
list was a person needing to get a compatible modem for Mandrake...he
downloaded the linux version of his Dell Conexant windmodem from Linuxant
and things worked great.
Anyone tried this?

have a question about partitioning. If I decide to dual boot with xp
and mandrake, is there a particular size of partition that I should manke
for mandrake, or should I just follow the recommended partition of the other
linux distro I'll be using for the partitioning?

Hi,
Well, as problems go it's not a big problem...but this is the first linux
distro I'm going to try to use..after trying out some others...I suppose I
should have tried 9.2 first, but, oh well...this is free (for awhile) :)
I guess I'll learn as I go.

About USB, I am not using USB mouse or keyboard.
I had the same shut down problem when I tried out Xandros last month...not
only wouldn't it shut down, but it wouldn't let me use the power button to
turn it off.
Thanks,

Fro

I'm new in Linux. Before asking, I tried to use g77 or f77, but I don't have
them on the computer. I have the gcc installed and I can compile C programs
without problems, but I can't compile Fortran programs. I only wanted to
know where I can find this compiler.
Laura.

Hi,
I want to install a Fortran compiler. Where can I find one of them?
Thanks.

modem working under Linux? How did you do it?
I want to be able to select USB port for modem in kppp. That is not
possible right now, because that option is not in the list, although it
certainly should be.
Thanks,

with Samba, and the magic word to add to smb.conf turned out to be:
print command = /usr/bin/lpr -r -h -P %p %s
I don't know why this isn't in the default smb.conf file; I found it in the
SMB-HOWTO.

And when you do get linux booted, run "mkbootdisk" to make a real boot
disk for your system.
